It is permissible to perform optional prayers sitting even if one is able to stand, according to the ḥadīth (narration) of ‘Imrān Ibn Ḥuṣayn when he was suffering from haemorrhoids, that he said, “I asked Allāh’s Messenger (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) about a man praying while sitting. He said, “If he prays standing, that is better and whoever prays sitting will have half of the reward. And whoever prays lying down will half of the reward given to somebody who prays sitting”” [Bukhārī: 1115].
