The Messenger of Allāh (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) used to say different types of adhkār:
- “Subḥāna Rabbī Al `Aẓīm” (Free be my Lord the Great from all imperfections) three times [Reported by Imam Aḥmad]
- “Subḥāna Rabbī Al `Aẓīm wa biḥamdih” (Free be my Lord the Great from all imperfections and praise be to Him) three times [Ṣifat al Ṣalāt (Description of Prayer), p.133]
- “Subbūḥun Quddūsun Rabbu Al Malā’ikati wa Al Rūḥ (Pure and Far above all imperfections, Sacred and Sanctified, Lord of the Angels and the Rūḥ (Translator’s addition: A great Angel: one opinion is that this refers to Jibrīl)) [Reported by Imam Muslim: 487]
- “Subḥānaka Allāhumma Rabbanā wa biḥamdika Allāhumma ghfir lī” (Free be You, O Allāh our Lord, from all imperfections and praise be to You. O Allāh, forgive me). He used to say this a lot when bowing and when prostrating acting upon the Qur`ān (Translator’s addition: Specifically, in Sūrat al Nasr).
