Taking a large number of steps to the mosque means a large number of good deeds:

Allāh’s Messenger – may Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him – said, “Whoever leaves his house for the mosque, will have ten good deeds written down for every step he takes. When somebody sits waiting for prayer, it is as if he is in worship, and he will have the reward for praying from the time he leaves his house until the time he returns to it.” [Reported by Imām Aḥmad]
