If you are ill, you still have to pray and you pray according to what you are able to do:

  1. It was narrated from ‘Imrān Ibn Ḥuṣayn (may Allāh be pleased with him that he said “I was suffering from haemorrhoids, so I asked Allāh’s Messenger (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) about praying. He said, “Pray standing; and if you cannot, pray sitting; and if you cannot, pray on your side.” [Reported by Bukhārī].
  2. It was narrated from Idrīs Al Khawlānī that he said, “Those who walk to the mosque in the dark will indeed be rewarded by Allāh with perfect light on the Day of Judgment.” [Ḥilyatu Al Awliyā` 5/125].
  3. It was narrated from Al Awzā’ī that he said, “Umar Ibn Al Khaṭṭāb (may Allāh be pleased with him) wrote to those who worked for him saying, “avoid being busy at prayer times, because whoever lets it go and squanders it, other aspects of his religion will be even worse.” [Ḥilyatu Al Awliyā 5/316].
  4. It was narrated from Yūnus Ibn ‘Ubaid that he said, “There are two things that if they are fine, everything else will be fine: your prayer and your tongue.” [Ḥilyatu Al Awliyā` 3/20].
  5. Sufyān reported, “when Talḥah Ibn Muṣarrif was ill, we were with him and Zubair came to him and said, “stand up and pray because I know you that you love prayer.” So, he stood up and prayed.” [Ḥilyatu Al Awliyā` 5/19].
