The excellence of prayer in congregation

1. “It is twenty-seven times better than praying alone.”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allāh (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) said, “Praying in congregation is twenty-seven times better than praying alone” [Reported by Bukhārī and Muslim].

2. “Being saved from the Fire and hypocrisy”.

It was narrated from Anas Ibn Mālik (may Allāh be pleased with him) that “the Messenger of Allāh (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) said, “Whoever prays for Allāh for forty days in congregation. catching the first takbīr (saying Allāhu Akbar), will have it written for him that he will be safe from two things: he will be safe from the Fire and safe from hypocrisy”.” [Al Silsilah Al Ṣaḥīḥah]

3. Whoever maintains the ‘ishā` (night time) and fajr (dawn) prayers in congregation will have the reward of the supererogatory night prayer.

It was narrated from Uthmān (may Allāh be pleased with him) that he said, “the Messenger of Allāh (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) said, “When somebody prays the ‘ishā (night time) prayer in congregation, it is as if he has prayed half the night, and whoever prays the fajr (dawn) prayer in congregation, it is as if he prayed the whole night”” [Reported by Muslim].

4. Encouragement to attend congregational prayer even if you have to crawl to it:

It was narrated from Abū Hurayrah (may Allāh be pleased with him) that, “the Messenger of Allāh (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) said, “If the people knew what excellence lies in the adhān (call to prayer) and in the first row, and they could not get these opportunities except by drawing lots, they would have definitely drawn lots. And if they knew what excellence lies in joining the prayer for the first takbīr (saying Allāhu Akbar), they would have vied with one another. And if they knew what excellence lies in the night time prayer and dawn prayer, they would have definitely come even if they had to crawl on their knees.” [Reported by Bukhārī and Muslim].
