Straightening up from rukū’ (bowing) in prayer:

The Prophet (May Allāh praise him and Peace be upon him) used to say the following when standing up from bowing:

  1. Rabbanā walaka alḥamd (O our Lord, Praise be to You) [Imam Bukhārī: 805] and would sometimes add Allāhumma (O Allāh) [Imam Bukhārī: 478].
  2. Sometimes he would add, Mila al samāwāti wa mil’a al arḍ wa mā bainahumā wa mila mā shita min shayin ba’d (the quantity of the heavens and the earth and everything between them and whatever You will beside that) [Reported by Imam Muslim: 478].
  3. Sometimes, he would add, Mil’a al samāwāti wa mil’a al arḍ wa mā bainahumā wa mil’a mā shi’ta min shay’in badu. Ahla althanā’I walmajdi, ahaqqu mā qāla alabdu wa kullunā laka ‘abdun [Allāhumma]. Lā māni’a limā a’tayta wa la mu’tiya limā mana’ta wa la yanfa’u dha al jaddi minka aljadd (the quantity of the heavens and the earth and what is between them and whatever You will beside that. Deserving of praise and glory, the truest thing that the slave said, and we are all slaves to You. [O Allāh] There is not that can withhold what you give and none that can give what you withhold. And those with authority and power, their power and authority will not benefit them against you) [Reported by Imam Muslim: 477].
